Coming soon...

spring. And possibly some fresh faces to model my newest dresses? This week is spring break for the kiddies, which means sewing time for me. So far three garments, a belt and my very first peter pan collar have ensued...don't worry, they'll be available on Etsy shortly.

Dear Mr. West,

I like your latest album because it is acerbic and tender and has a well-crafted auditory texture. I like you because you always do what Kan wants, and Kan has good taste even when he's upset. I thought it was nice that at the end of your concert you reminded us that even though you spend hours dancing around unaccompanied in artistic asymmetrical hoodies on complicated tilted stage outer space sets singing and rapping about your own greatness, you are still a human being who is sad about his mother dying. And that dancing around in artistic asymmetrical hoodies on complicated tilted stage outer space sets singing and rapping about your own greatness might also seem kind of silly, but it's what you like doing. Thank you for just getting out there and making it happen. You're doing a wonderful job of being you.

Sincerely,

Caitlin

P.S. The very first time I saw you, you were shooting lasers balancing on one hand wearing a cardigan and high tops in a really excellent magazine I used to buy in Germany, and I thought you were cool.

Nerds + Art = Fun

Einar recently reminded me how nerdy and fun Threadless.com can be. For those of you who aren't familiar, it's an online shirt store where anyone can submit designs to be voted on by other visitors and artists. If the design reaches a certain fever pitch of popularity or strikes a chord, they go into production and pop up for sale. Fun, right? They are also currently having a $5 and $10 spring shirt blowout, which is totally a deal for crafty and sometimes humorous screen prints swarming out of the creative hive. Here are my faves, go find your own. (Or you can click on these pics to go straight to each shirt). Something about that weird masked avenger shirt on top totally does it for me...

Hello, again.

Alright, so I can imagine you're thinking "What is this supposed to be? Just a little collection of the greatest YouTube videos ever? Where are the dresses?" Or maybe you love videos far more than dresses and you're not thinking that. Anyway, the truth is that my faithful partner of over 12 years, who accompanied me twice to Germany and back and saw me through both high school and university, finally crapped out. Yes, my mother's Necchi sewing machine. After some high pitched squealing and grinding of gears the needle slowly came to a halt in the middle of my ninth of fourteen half-finished dance costumes approximately 24 hours before their due date. So I sucked it up (and so did Shola, by letting me borrow her machine and her cheap labor to finish the costumes, gracias!) and started shopping for a new one. My dress production understandably dropped off during this time period...but I pleased to announce my induction into the realm of American adults. I have purchased a home appliance on credit. So you can imagine my joy when I completed this little red number as the pilgrim project! Until my digital camera gasped its last breath trying to photograph it...

You know you love it.

Yet another reason to marvel at the fact that we humans enjoy both participating in and observing coordinated movements on a large scale. (Thanks Bruderherz). I really like the idea of trending back toward dance crazes that people can do together in groups rather than this sort of individual release that's been the norm in social dance situations since disco died. Anyone have any great ideas? I'm in.

Jede Zelle...

This will make you feel happy, even if you don't know German. Here is my English translation. Sing it to yourself when you're feeling blue. Bonus for the motions.

Every cell in my body's feeling happy
All of my body cells are feeling good
Every cell in my body's feeling happy
All of my body cells are feeling good

Every cell in every place
Every cell is feeling great!
Every cell in every place
Every cell is feeling great!

Repeat as necessary.
(Thank you Matthias)
